May is here – the last month before summer heats up in Georgia (if it hasn’t already!). This month in Seniors Taking Charge, we’re talking about how snacks can fit into a healthy diet and help older adults eat enough calories and nutrients throughout the day. We’re also discussing why flexibility exercises are important for keeping active, as well as how to prevent falls and reduce the fear of falling. We also talk about making informed treatment decisions – it’s easy to want a quick fix that seemed to work for a friend, but is it safe for you? And as always, there is a quick and easy recipe to try – this month, it’s the banana roll-up recipe that’s great for sharing with the grandkids. Be sure to check out this month’s edition here, and visit our archives if you’ve missed an issue in the past.

Happy Spring – Here’s the March 2017 Seniors Taking Charge
It’s March, and this month’s Seniors Taking Charge newsletter is full of ideas to eat well, be active, and stay healthy. For many older adults, cooking for one or two can seem like a waste of time and money. We’re sharing tips to make it easier to cook for one or two, save time, and decrease waste. Also, we’re talking about the importance of warming up and cooling down for exercise, as well as how to prevent heart attacks and strokes. We also talk about the importance of keeping an updated list of medications (prescription and over-the-counter), supplements, and creams or ointments so that your doctors can help you avoid drug interactions. You can download your copy of the March newsletter here.

It’s February, and this month’s Seniors Taking Charge newsletter is full of ideas to keep you on the healthy track this year. Sometimes, we think that it’s too expensive to eat healthy. We’re sharing tips to eat well without breaking the bank. Also, we’re talking about how to start or increase endurance (or aerobic) activity safely, as well as how to tell if someone is having a stroke or heart attack. We also talk about the importance of recognizing symptoms of medication side effects, allergic reactions, and interactions with other medications and why you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist about these issues.
